We all have our own versions of comfort food, but pretty much everyone knows that there are certain foods that can make you forget all your problems. Read on to discover some classic favorites (and maybe even some new finds) that will help turn your frown upside down.

Ice cream

Go full-out on your ice cream! Don’t hold back – it only works if you truly let yourself indulge (and maybe even land a few tears in the container while watching a sad movie). Bonus points if you manage to eat two pints in less than two hours.

Pizza

Pizza is so dang delicious that you’ll forget your feelings for a few moments. I’m not saying forever, but for a few moments? Yes.

Rice

The late, great comedian Mitch Hedberg once had a bit of true wisdom:

“Rice is great if you’re really hungry and want to eat two thousand of something.”

I see no lies.

Popcorn

Try adding a fun treat to your popcorn like chocolate chips, peanut M&M’s or your favorite shredded cheese. Or, get super gourmet buy using an air popper and buying high-quality butter, salt, and pepper. There are also tons of other herbs and spices you can throw in to put a fancy twist on a classic snack.

Nuts

Nuts are perfect if you have the type of sadness that ruins your appetite. You know you’ll feel better if you get the proper nutrients, but you just can’t bring yourself to eat.

Try eating something that packs a lot of nutrition in a small package. Even if you don’t feel like eating, try nibbling on a handful of nuts. They may trigger your appetite, but if they don’t, at least you’re getting some healthy goodness your body really needs.

Breakfast

We all know breakfast food is best well past the hour of 10 am. Waffles for lunch, french toast for dinner and sugary cereal as a midnight (and 4 am) snack? It’s so wrong, and that’s what makes it feel so right.

Candy

Do your childhood self the honor of relishing in the fact that you’re an adult who can eat whatever the heck you want, whenever the heck you want it. Go grab that favorite candy bar – or maybe like 20 of them, just to be safe.

Chocolate

Chocolate is the tried-and-true comfort food. Do I even need to explain why chocolate is on this list? You should be eating some already!
