From our friends at PopTonic:
Dolly Parton is already a multi-talented musician, actress, entrepreneur, and humanitarian. And now, she’s also the star of her very own comic book!
Is there anything that the Queen of Country can’t do, y’all?
Don’t expect to find Parton as a superhero in the Marvel Universe any time soon. The country music icon will be joining the ranks of Mother Teresa and Cher, in the Female Force comic book series.
The Female Force line is meant to spotlight real-life women who have made a strong impact on the world — something that Dolly Parton can certainly claim. Parton’s 22-page comic book will highlight her status as a “powerhouse singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, record producer, actress, author, businesswoman, and philanthropist,” according to publisher TidalWave Productions.
For Parton’s comic book debut, comic book writer Michael Frizell retells her rise from poverty in East Tennessee to global stardom. “Writing about Dolly was a joy,” Frizell said in a statement. “Her creativity, philanthropy, and humanity are legendary.”
Frizell also praised artist Ramon Salas, who illustrated the comic. “I’m thrilled with the expressive way the artist visualized the pages,” he said, noting that Salas’ accompanying art makes the book feel “timeless.”
Portland-based TidalWave couldn’t have picked a better subject for their next Female Force comic. There’s no question that Parton is a national treasure! She’s managed to stay relevant for the past 60 years, brightening our spirits and warming our hearts. She is everything a celebrity should be: talented, giving, and most of all, kind.
Dubbed the Queen of Country, she’s a powerhouse singer and multi-instrumentalist who has won a slew of awards for her work. She’s also written and produced plenty of music, for both herself and other artists. Parton has actually composed over 3,000 songs to date.
Parton also branched out into acting, starring in hit films like Steel Magnolias and 9 to 5. And at 75, she’s showing no signs of slowing. In fact, she just produced and starred in a holiday movie that was released at the end of last year.
Of course, we can’t talk about Dolly Parton without mentioning her own theme park, Dollywood, which she built in her home state of Tennessee to help create jobs and boost the economy. And if all that isn’t enough, she’s also a long-time philanthropist. She has donated millions of her earnings over the years to help others. She even started the Imagination Library, one of the biggest literary programs in the world.
Female Force: Dolly Parton was just released on March 31. It is available both digitally and in print — including a hardcover version.
TidalWave’s Female Force has already spotlighted former first lady Michelle Obama, pop superstar Cher, actress Betty White, activist Gloria Steinem, and humanitarian and said Mother Teresa.
“We’ve found a niche with our bio comics,” said TidalWave publisher Darren G. Davis. “There is a much wider audience for sequential storytelling than many have thought. These readers are simply looking for something other than superheroes.”
