Most people don’t get unlimited time away from work. If you’re preparing to head out of town for a while, you might want to make a few preparations before you even leave so you can make the most of your trip. The last thing you want to do when you’re on vacation is to spend time dealing with the boring stuff you could have handled in the weeks or days leading up to your travel!

Today, we’re going to help you out with a handful of time-saving tips that will get you to make the most of your vacation before you even hit the road. Let’s dive into these vacation-saving tips!

Make a Plan for Your Pets

If you’ve got pets that won’t be coming with you on your vacation, make sure you have a plan in place for them before it’s time to go. You don’t want to be frantically calling friends and family to see who can feed your cat or watch your dog while you’re out of town the day your plane is supposed to take off.

Cats are generally pretty low-maintenance – just make sure someone will come by to feed them and clean their litter boxes and they should be okay if you’re only going to be gone for a week.

Dogs are a bit needier – you’ll want to kennel them or leave them with a trusted friend if you’re going to be gone overnight or longer.

Packing Tips

Make sure you pack up everything you need the night before you leave. Make a checklist of everything you can’t live without and make sure it fits into your luggage. If you can, try to pack light. Bring only the essentials so you’re not lugging 100 pounds of stuff on vacation with you.

Don’t forget to pack a toothbrush, comb, and phone charger! These are the most common items that people forget about that they find themselves buying at the airport. Also, make sure that any toothpaste or shampoo you bring is travel-size so it doesn’t get confiscated by TSA.

Ridesharing Apps

If none of your friends are free to give you a ride to the airport, don’t panic. Thanks to apps like Uber and Lyft, you can get a ride to the airport on short notice. This is often much cheaper than paying to park your car at the airport for a week, so make sure you do your research before you leave the house on the day of your trip.
